Staff Reporter : Bangladesh Press Unity held an open meeting on World Press Freedom Day. The meeting, held at the Shilpakala Academy premises on May 3 at 10 am under the chairmanship of Unity’s Executive President Ekramul Haque Gazi Liton, was addressed by Bangladesh Press Unity founder and acting editor of Daily Forecast Momin Mehedi, advisor Anwar Hossain, vice chairman Shanta Farzana, Wazed Rana, Rajibul Ahsan and others.

At this time, the leaders said, on World Press Freedom Day, in addition to the security law for the media and journalists,
we are demanding that the government provide a monthly allowance of at least 3,000 taka for upazila-level news fighters, at least 5,000 taka for district-level news fighters, and 10,000 taka for those working in the central or newspaper office, as well as a minimum government allowance of 2,000 taka for those working in the circulation and advertising departments.

Bangladesh Press Unity has been making this demand for the last 17 years. I hope that at least this time it will move. Momin Mehedi,

founder of Bangladesh Press Unity, said at this time, in 2009, with the aim of protecting the rights of journalists, the Online Press Unity was launched from the TSC of Dhaka University with the slogan ‘Press Unity’s commitment – there will be no more misinformation…’. Later, in 2020, its name was changed to Bangladesh Press Unity.
Bangladesh Press Unity will soon recruit new members so that it can become the most active organization in Bangladesh, a vocal organization protecting the rights of the media and journalists.
